It was announced with no doubt by one of the respected boxing trainer who is Teddy Altas that Joshua Clottey is not an easy opponent for the pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao compared to WBO Jr middleweight King Yuri Foreman.
During the interview in www.boxingscene.com, it was stated that Atlas strongly believed that it was a big mistake for Pacquiao’s team in choosing Clottey.
“I think it’s a mistake for them to go with Clottey instead of Foreman. I know Pacquiao is looking at the size of Foreman but sometimes it’s not about the size.” according to Altas.
“They were wrong when they assume this will be an easier fight.”
After the failure negotiation of Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, the team of Pinoy boxing superstar first chose Foreman because of the title that will make Pacquiao an 8-time world champion if ever he can make it.
The plan was then altered when Top Rank boss Bob Arum changed his mind. He wanted Pacquiao to defend the WBO welterweight title against Clottey this March 13, 2010 – a big possibility to be held in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Atlas shared his sentiment that if ever he’s the handler of Pacquiao, he’ll choose Foreman rather than Clottey.
“Clottey is much more physical and much more dangerous in this fight than Foreman. Clottey fights like a bigger man and mentally he thinks of himself as a bigger fighter and proves it in the way he fights at 147,” Atlas added.
