Rendezvous Exclusive Interview

by

We asked Rendezvous, the band who popularized jazz electropop music, to tell us about their debut album – and they’re doing more than that; they’re willing to dish the dirt!

Rendezvous has been providing underground music some veritable electronica grooves in the past few years. After releasing three tracks online, thousands of listeners downloaded their tunes. This testament to their very likable music has urged the two-man band to come up with an eight-track debut album, to be released this year.

Itai Simon and Hagai Izenberg gamely answered our questions as we fired away.

Who is the babe magnet between the both of you?

Hagai: I’m happily married and it’s hard enough having one woman in my life!

Itai : So, that would be me, although it’s because of a technicality.

Who is the bigger comic and who is the more serious person?

Hagai: We’re both way too serious to be labeled as jokesters.

Itai: Well, perhaps the comic would have to be me!

How long did it take you guys to finish your debut album?

Itai: A very long time! If we had to do it again from scratch, it would be shorter this time. But I guess that’s not really fair to say, right? No doubt, we did this the long way; but eventually, looking at what we’ve achieved, the long way sometimes is also the right way! We not only worked on the album; we also built our studio, our own musical concept, and our vision in the process. Not to mention a couple of barbecues on Hagai’s rooftop! All in all, it’s a bit more than 4 years…

Hagai: Ever since we finished the demo versions for all the tracks at around 2008, my friends have been asking me constantly when we would be finished with the album. At first, I said, in about 6 months. A year has passed since then and still, the album wasn’t finished. Then, my brother’s wife got pregnant. She asked me if we will finish when the baby is born; I said, of course! And, of course, the album still wasn’t ready then.

To make the long story short, after two new nephews, a wedding, and many more affairs, the album is finally finished! It was worth all the time and effort, because now, it’s finally ready. We are very pleased with the result! I guess one needs a lot of patience to make it in the music business.
